Come learn the basics of flatfoot dance, a social and improvisational percussive form. In this workshop you will first learn to do some simple steps, and then you will learn how to improvise and combine them together! 7pm, after the slow jam.

About the event
Come learn the basics of flatfoot dance, a social and improvisational percussive form. In this workshop you will first learn to do some simple steps, and then you will learn how to improvise and combine them together. The class is appropriate for all ages. Hard-soled (non-rubber) shoes are ideal but any closed-toed shoes will do in a pinch.
Afton Coombs (they/them) is a percussive dancer based in Los Angeles. They started out as a tap dancer and then began flatfooting in 2015 when they happened to be at a jam session where they met their future teacher, Rebecca Stout. Since then, they have gone on to place first in the Topanga Banjo Fiddle dance contest three years in a row, earn a scholarship to study percussive dance at the Earful of Fiddle camp, and to play with bands throughout the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara areas.
